Sharm El Sheikh Things to Do
Naama Bay
Na'ama bay is the centre of all action in Sharm-el-Sheikh. Everything lives to tourism and from tourism. The beach is segmented in several private concessions, with a band of less than 20 meters considered public beach, which means that you don't pay the access to a restaurant or hotel, but... to... them! During...
moreSnorkeling
One of the featured snorkeling places in Sinai is this one, close to Dahab. The reef is not a wall, as everywhere else, but a sort of carpet, wide, rich, wonderful, with a deep hole in the middle. There, the dark blue and cold water create a vertiginous sensation. Indeed, a unique experience. Unfortunately, the supporting touristy... more
Ras Mohammed National Park
The national park is, officially, the best place to see the reefs, but... will it really be? Flocks of tourists interact each day with the reef, causing erosion and and damaging the natural balance. They try to relief the pressure, finding other spots, and spreading people. We did, visit a couple of other places... more

Sharm El Sheikh Restaurants
Fresh fish
Being in a all-inclusive package, we decided to have a single meal out of the hotel, to taste grilled fish by the beach. This restaurant was our choice, and the conclusions were contradictory - the place is pleasant, the menu is interesting, the prices acceptable, but the grilled fish a disappointment. I know that we were coming from Portugal... more
Brilliant restaurant in Hadaba.
Great varied local food at excellent prices. Mixed Grill, pizza, fetir or Spag Bol,it's hard to decide.Mixed grill (which is easily enough for 2) is LE50,the most expensive pizza is only LE30 and Spag Bol is LE8.Most sandwiches are LE1.5-LE3.This...
moreBlue Hole
Blue Hole is a perfect place to snorkel, only a few kilometers from Dahab, in a place missing support for tourists. A few wooden structures try to solve the problem but in very bad conditions. For instance the "restaurant" where we were taken had no toilet. The ladies where invited to go nearby to a place that I couldn't classify, but they... more
Sharm El Sheikh Nightlife
Not for me
Restaurant during the day, bar-discotheque after hours, I had a drink there. We were a very animated group, and for some minutes we had fun, dancing... I mean... moving in the repetitive rhythm of the electronic noisy music. After that time, it became boring and tiring, the drink was over, and we moved away, giving space... more

Again you get Taxi's pretty much every where you go in the world. You have them in Egypt which we only used them to get around. Sharm El Sheikh Shopping
Heavy publicity
We live in a fun world! The most expensive t-shirt that we found in Sharm-el-Sheikh was the one advertising this bar. Why?Why would we pay more than for the same shirt with no commercial references?Shouldn't it be the opposite?Shouldn't they make a discount to the customer that, back home, accepts to keep... more
Small street shops
Though too modern to hold a typical souk, we may find in Naama Bay a few areas where commerce follows the local standards and traditions. A few narrow streets in the modern construction of the touristy city, have some small shops and stalls, where the flavour of Muslim way of trading. Browsing those dark and narrow streets is a relaxing... more

Right in the centre of the lively area of town, this shipping was a mandatory visit each night to the females of our group. Call to prayer
Egypt is a muslim country so you are likely to hear the call to prayer from a local mosque. During the day its not a big deal but I am grateful I was warned of it because if I had not known that I would be woken at 4.30am by this it would have freaked me out to hear mysterious chanting.I'm normally a very good sleeper but I was woken... more
Interaction Sharm Style
While in Sharm one might experience some cultural shock related to interaction with locals. From one side, you will have extremely polite and well-mannered staff at the hotel, who will keep their distance and give you space. As soon as you leave your hotel, you will encounter the complete opposite style – from persistently... more

Taxi Drivers
Taxi drivers in Egypt as a whole will try and overcharge you, but one man tried to "con" me by switching a 50 piasters note for the 50le note I had given him, fortuately I had heard of this con and was watching him so he didn't get away with it. My son however after a night out and being the worse for drink was conned. So...

Egyptians are honestly the nicest people we have ever met and we love going on holiday to Egypt because of them however as soon as we got to our hotel once, we decided to take a look around and were instantly welcomed into the perfume shop. Coloured Canyon
This "attraction" is not a thing to see, but... to do. moreExcellent place
The best of Sharm el Sheikh to those who want to dive, is the facility to choose from a good program to the experts, or another good program for beginners. Our desert safari ended in a Bedouin settlement prepared for tourists, to a final camel ride.
